Route overview:

State Route 73 was a north-south route, skirting the extreme western edge of the Sydney metropolis. It was proclaimed in 1974, but in the late 1990's it was duplexed with 2 different tourist drives, TD14 north of the M4 and TD18 south of the M4. These duplexes proved to be SR73's downfall as there was no point having a state route that is duplexed for its entire length. In 1998, SR73 was coverplated, however one remnant remains on the southern approach to the M4 interchange at Regentville.

Notable events in the history of SR73:

1974 - SR73 Proclaimed
1998 - SR73 Decomissioned
2000 - Castlereagh Rd 4-laning from Jane St to Penrith Lakes
